Xavier Fiol
The Xavier Fiol Gallery, founded in 1989, focuses on fostering and promoting the latest in contemporary art. Since 1990 it has participated in international art fairs and consolidated a programme that combines the projection of upcoming young artists with already acclaimed figures.
Seeking as always for to foment the appreciation of contemporary art, in 2004 the gallery opened a new space in which to host a wider range of cultural events such as concerts, talks and round-table discussions.
Xavier Fiol has been part of the Consigli Directiu board of the Artissima fair in Turin, as well as the organizing committee of ARCO (Madrid), and the Xavier Fiol gallery has participated in international contemporary art fairs such as Artissima (Turin), Art Miami, Arco Madrid , Art Cologne, Artefiera-Bologna, SP Arte-São Paulo and Art Lima, among others.
Xavier Fiol is a founding member of AIGAB and ART PALMA and has been president of both professional associations.
Launched in January 2016 with the exhibition A Thousand Flowers by the German artist Herbert Hamak, XF PROYECTOS is a new space for contemporary art, a project dedicated to supporting artists, curators and collectors. Madrid XF sets out to challenge the existing models in a commitment to engaging with art and artists through a far-reaching programme of exhibitions, performances and installations.

In Greek mythology, the orchid is born from the transformation of Orchis, the son of a nymph and a satyr. From his mother he inherited charm; from his father, desire. Fierce and excessive, the gods of Olympus punished him by turning him into a delicate flower. From the Greek orchis —“testicle”— the orchid has since been a symbol of fertility, seduction, and lust, but also of the perfection of the unpredictable.
This series explores the encounter between seemingly opposing poles: the abject and the sublime, the marginal and the exquisite. The diptychs bring into relation portraits of eccentric figures—tattooed bodies, piercings, Gothic or tribal aesthetics—with close-ups of orchids of an equally unusual, fragile, and eccentric beauty. Social faunas and botanical florilegia thus engage in dialogue within the same constellation of rarities.
